Oops… After working on my first post for a good
hour, one thoughtless click sent it to cyberspace oblivion. Here we go again.
We all make that fatal click many times every
day—at work, at home, with friends, family, or just plain strangers. The
problem is that in real life there is no ctrl-z.
No going back. No starting over. Assessing our
options, thinking things through one last time before committing, is crucial.
What we do defines who we are today and conditions our tomorrow. Nothing we do
is indifferent. Every single act either opens a new window of opportunities, or
sends the virus of our own incoherence, selfishness or irresponsibility
hurtling through our system.
Unfortunately, today it’s harder than ever to think
things through. We live in a culture where everything moves at a vertiginous
pace. We can’t wait for a letter or an email: we need to know what are friends
are doing now, via Facebook and Twitter. That’s not necessarily bad. However, in
the rush we can forget to think. The news, friends, trends, or simply the spur
of the moment will make our decisions for us. To do the right thing, we need an
efficient conscience that can keep up with the one-click-away pace of today’s
world.
This blog is for the split second right before you
click. As the posts come and go, we will re-think common sureties, learn
principles and tools that will speed up our reaction time, and judge current
events and dilemmas from the moral perspective. We’ll upgrade conscience. If
you’re interested, follow this blog. Think again.
