(Gospel) If you do things so that others see you, then God will not reward you.
The solution is not to stop doing good things, but to change your heart. Search your heart when you perform good works, and find out why you do them.
It's very easy to be doing external things that are good, for the wrong reasons. We went into this in depth when preparing for lent. We provided an exercise for finding out our good and back habits, and the motivations that drive those habits. It might be a good idea to go back to that, and see if you really changed because of the exercise, or if you gave up quickly and fell back into the same old ruts in the road of life. (Good/Bad, it's all the Same)
Because, at the end of the day, both good Christians and pagans mow their grass, but the essential difference between them is the reason why they do it. And differing motives behind the very same action - keeping the lawn tidy - can end up sending you to heaven or hell.
