OCTOBERBABY Fights it Out

Hats off to film producer, Jon Erwin. Last weekend as the much talked about Hunger Games arrived to the theaters, his much less known October Baby also hit the box office. The latter made its debut after a long battle for its very existence. No studio wanted to accept it, let alone fund it. Why? Because it had a positive moral message which centered on being pro-life. Why else...?

I can’t help but praise Erwin and his team for their perseverance in this endeavor. How easy it would have been to retreat, when big bad Goliath tried to stomp out this good work.

What kept them going?

Well, when you don’t live by the maxim, “might makes right”, you don’t give up very easily, especially if we’re talking about a film that promotes saving the lives of babies from ... their mothers. You live by the moral standard stamped in your being by God and act accordingly.

Jones and his team believe that the truth which this film promotes may be “counter-media” but is not “counter-good of man.” Christ says, “Live in the truth and the truth will set you free.” If you take these words seriously, you believe that your message of truth, if it reaches the hearts of everyday Joe and Mary, will find a harmonious resonance. It may not be easy to accept but if lived, will help find the happiness that Christ offers.

Being David in a world full of Goliaths is not easy and you don’t always have the Davidic satisfaction of chopping off your enemy’s head after a good slingshot whack. In fact sometimes the opposite may happen to you.

Rest assured though, your reward will be great in heaven. And sometimes the satisfaction will be yours to relish as it was for Erwin and company. The first weekend out it earned the second-highest-per-screen average, bringing in almost $2 million in ticket sales.
