Post Vacation Blues

By Benjamin O'Loughlin

Back to school. Back to work. Why go through it all again? Why not just stay on vacation?

We are all natural vacationers. It doesn't matter if it's the beach, tall mountains, or just good old down time. We were made to go vacationing. And we did.

That was then. This is now.

Then the world was perfect. Now it's not. Then happiness came easy. Now we have to fight for it. Vacations are wonderful because they're a small—a very small—taste of what God made us for: heaven. But we can't stay on vacation forever. Vacations are only a reminder.

The real thing waits for us on the other side of the grind of everyday life. School and work are where we grow towards eternity. We need to grow. We're not yet ready for heaven. Vacation was great, but now we have work to do. And it's worth doing.
