Preparing for the Curve Ahead

A man in a fancy suit stood in the moving #867 downtown bus with his back towards the front. He held onto the hanging handle over his head absentmindedly. In front of him stood a short elderly woman also holding on, her other hand clutching her rolling shopping bag. She gazed forwards, watching the driver and the oncoming traffic.

Suddenly, in the curve, the bus veered sharply.

The distinguished gentleman didn't see it coming; he lost his grip, slipped on the floor and slammed against the windowpanes. He fractured his arm in two places and got knocked unconscious by the blow to his head.

The old woman, on the other hand, saw the curve coming, held on firmly, leaned with the bus in the tight curve, and kept to her feet.

When things go well for us, when we feel consoled by the Lord, when we are on top of the world, THEN is the moment to prepare for the curves of life, for the desolation and difficulties that are surely coming in the future.

Both passengers experienced the same sharp curve, but only one was prepared.
