Pope Politics?

By Benjamin O'Loughlin

Geopolitics, international intrigue, third-world cardinals maneuvering for position against the first-world establishment... all amid the shadowy nooks and crannies of St. Peter's Basilica.

That's what Internet is full of right now, as the clock ticks down towards Benedict XVI's resignation.

Meanwhile, the Roman Curia and Benedict himself are... praying. Together. Last night they began their annual Lenten retreat: a week of silent reflection and prayer.

In Matthew 16:16 Christ promised to found his Church on Peter, giving him the strength to shepherd the Church, and the guidance necessary to see us home to heaven. Pope politics aren't about choosing who will get to wield that power. They're about choosing who God will wield that power through - the Pope is God's instrument.

The Vatican is praying. Join in.

  1. It is so sad that the media, non-Catholics and even some (ignorant?) Catholics do not understand the gravity of what is happening within the hierarchy of The Church. It is a very Holy process and I join you in your prayers to God for whomever He chooses to lead us. Thank you, Br. Benjamin. This is very meaningful and I will share the link on my blog.

    Prayers and Blessings +++
