Monday morning. Stuck in traffic, you sip your already cold - or maybe still too hot - coffee, trying to get somewhere you really don't want to go anyway: to work. And the Pope has something to say to you. Right now.
God is a worker too. He designed Adam and Eve to roll up their sleeves - once they had them - and get to work. But that wasn't a punishment. It was a gift.
Even before the fall, Adam and Eve worked. In Paradise. For the Pope, work isn't a problem. It's a gift that lets us share in God's work of creating, caring for and bettering our world.
On May 1st, that's what Pope Francis told workers everywhere from his chapel on Vatican hill.

"This icon of God worker tells us that work is something more than just earning our daily bread. Work gives us dignity! Those who work have dignity, a special dignity, a personal dignity: men and women who work are dignified."
"Today, it would do us good to listen to the voice of God, when he spoke to Cain, saying: "Cain, where is your brother?" Today, however, we hear this voice: "Where is your brother who has no work? Where is your brother who is subjected to slave labor? Let us pray, let us pray for all these brothers and sisters who are in this situation."
Work is a gift that many would like to have. If you do, thank God for it. And don't waste the opportunity. Today is your chance to make the world a little more like paradise.
