Jesus@Religion

Really want to meet someone?

Whose house do you go to? Yours or his?
Whose phone do you call? Yours or his?
Whose Facebook do you go to? Yours or his?

     HIS!

The church is Jesus’ house, and religion is his Facebook page. If you never go there, you won’t find him. You might find other friends, have other ideals, build other dreams. You can even call them Jesus, if you want. But they won’t be him.

Two thousand years ago, mankind was in crisis. The Greeks and Romans had already given up on their pantheon. Everyone else had seen how useless their own gods were, as the Greeks overran the world, with the Romans hot on their heels. Religion, mankind’s quest for God, had failed. We couldn't bridge the gap between us and the infinite.

That was when Jesus came. He didn't bring MORE religion. He brought GOD'S religion: the only real bridge between God and mankind. And that bridge was … himself. To hold God’s bridgehead into our world and keep traffic flowing, Jesus founded the church.

Unfortunately, the human part of that bridgehead isn't always perfect or exemplary. We don’t always find a warm welcome at the checkpoint. Sometimes the attendant has bad breath. Maybe he’s grumpy. And that’s wrong. It shouldn't happen. But even if it does, we still need the bridge.

Jesus is religion. If you don’t go there, you won’t find him.
