(Gospel) "Mercy, not sacrifice." God wants us to love him in others. For the Jews during Jesus' life this meant it was more important to forgive others than to bring a sheep to the temple to be killed and burnt in God's name - today this could take on many other forms: forgiveness over making a donation; becoming a real friend with a "lost" soul over praying multiple rosaries; words which build up the community over "attacking" those who are in the wrong...
