When there's a big job to do, we send in the heavy machinery.
God doesn't.
Yesterday Benedict XVI spoke about fixing problems - God style.
After original sin, man's salvation - the biggest job in recorded history - would have seemed to call for extreme measures. Our offense: unforgivable. Our debt: unpayable. Both were infinite. There was a lot of dirt to move - far too much for mankind to shift on its own. We could have at least hoped for a legion of angels in gleaming celestial bulldozers, right?
What we got was a baby in swaddling clothes. The Bible is full of examples of God's quirky way of doing things, but Baby Jesus definitely takes the cake.
At the end of each day, we often wonder why God didn't step in. Why prayers went unanswered. But maybe they were answered. And maybe we missed God's solutions because we were too busy waiting for the bulldozers to show up.
