5 monkeys huddled together whimpering under the rain. The water filtered through a massive hole in their tree-house covering and soaked them thoroughly. It was dark and cold. They mumbled to each other with determination: "Tomorrow we will patch the roof!"
Bright and early the sun climbed the sky and, like in the story of the Incy Winzy Spider, "dried up all the rain." And the monkeys baked under the sun, ate some bananas, and began to play.
That night, however, they again huddled together and again the rain began to pour down as it did every night. And guess what they said to each other in a determined whimper: "Tomorrow we will patch the roof."

We saw in an earlier post how the devil attacks us where we are weakest. And how important it is, in another post, to prepare ourselves for future spiritual attacks and desolation.
The BEST way to fight is by making our weak point strong, not while we are huddled together wet and cold, but while the sun is shining.
Lent is one of the best moments to: 1. seriously seek and find the weakest point in our spiritual fortress, 2. dig deep to the root motivations that cause us to err again and again, 3. and in calm reflection, with the help of God's grace, patch up the crumbling wall while the sun is shining.
Otherwise, we will find ourselves wet and cold again and again, banging our heads against the wall trying to figure out why we always find ourselves confessing the exact. same. sins.
Hopefully when the enemy returns to attack us, we will meet him strong and ready.
