Life is Not a Petting Zoo

(Gospel) Do you steal and slaughter and destroy?

When Jesus talks about sheep, he only offers two options: you're either in it for the sheep, or in it for the mutton.

We would have liked a third option, something along the lines of a petting zoo. Because slaughtering is ugly, and giving your life for the sheep doesn't sound very nice either.

But life is no petting zoo. Whether you're a parent, a teacher or coach, or just a great friend, your sheep are real people in a real world with real wolves. And if you aren't a shepherd, you're either a thief, or one of the wolves.

Caring means laying down your life, whether it's all at once, or day by day.
