When I was growing up, my dad wanted to plant an apple orchard. As he went through the colorful catalog pages there were normal trees and hybrids for sale. We purchased a few of both. The hybrids were apple branches grafted onto a faster growing trunk. They were not supposed to last as many years, but should start producing apples within a year or two.
Well, that's what they promised anyway. After two years, the normal trees were producing fruit, and the hybrids were still lagging.
For the future, we didn't check the catalog, we had seen for ourselves which trees produced fruit.
For Jesus it's the same. He wants spiritual fruits. And that's how he judges our actions - according to what lasts for eternity.
