(Gospel) We don't doubt that God CAN cure our illnesses, make us clean, give us the strength to accept death in the family, find our children jobs and spouses, or bring those fallen away back to the faith ... we know God is all-powerful. And still we think he will do all those things if he wants. And if he doesn't want to then "what's the point of asking?"
Jesus told today's leper that he DID want to make him clean. But look at the facts, he didn't do it until he ASKED.
And that's the freedom God has given us humans. Unlike your dog, you are free to choose. And one of those choices is the ability to ask for help from someone greater.
Sometimes people think that God doesnt hear them, because their prayers to be healed or to be helped go unanswered. Or at least not answered the way they wish them to be. God hears all but sometimes God is trying to get us to see that we have to work towards helping ourselves. Its not magic. Its about learning to be proficient in the use of the means that we have to help ourselves. God like any good father wants us to be able to be independent as well.
